Swanage Wins South West Federation of Croquet Clubs

League Handicap Trophy

Congratulations to our handicap team who beat their counterparts from Glamorgan 12-8 to win the South West Federation of Croquet Clubs Handicap League Trophy at Nailsea on 21st September. Although Swanage’s strong start in the doubles meant they had their noses in front many of the matches went to the final hoop in a close battle played out over 7 hours.

The victory represents a fitting end to a long season involving matches against Taunton, Budleigh Salterton, Dowlish Wake, Bude and Abbey. It also adds to the tally of honours after winning the same trophy in 2016 and 2022 (runner up in 2024) and the High Handicap equivalent in 2024 (runner up in 2023). It also means Swanage potentially qualify for the 2026 National Championships.

Pictures from the days events can be found here.

Advantage Golf Croquet

Advantage Golf Croquet has recently been adopted by South West Federation and so will be used in league matches and our own club competitions in 2025. To help make this change guidance on playing Advantage Golf Croquet, including starting tables and how to score etc, is now available from the navigation bar via the heading 'Play'.

Also now available is an expanded guidance note on the more general rules of playing Golf Croquet which includes foul shots, the penalties arising and how best to avoid them in specific situations."
