Swanage Croquet Club

Welcome
Swanage Croquet Club was formed in 2005 and we play Golf Croquet seven days a week at the playing field in Bon Accord Road. Golf Croquet is a sport that can be enjoyed by all and played very simply or involve lots of tactics and subtle shots with games often lasting between 40-60 minutes. We welcome anyone interested in playing the game, regardless of age or ability, and we provide all equipment and guidance necessary to help you enjoy gentle exercise and mental stimulation in good company. We’ll even ‘buddy’ you up with a member to help you learn the game. So, if you’d like to try a taster session simply get in touch and let us know when you are available and we'll get back to you. Alternatively you can join now by completing a simple form that can be downloaded here.

Swanage win the National Final of the Federation Shield
Although our Handicap Team finished 2nd in their league competition this season it is wonderful to report that they have won the final of this year’s National Federation Shield competition. In so doing they have beaten teams from Southport and Doncaster in the quarter and semifinals and Phyllis Court of Henley in the final. Congratulations to the team.

Tear and Share picnic – 8th August
Thank you to Nancy King for organising the tear and share picnic on 8th August. Social events such as these are important for club members and so it was good to see the event well supported with members enjoying the wonderful weather.

Internal competitions
Thank you to members for doing what they can to complete their various competition matches in time. The impact of the drought on the lawns hasn’t made this easy but it is hoped that the recent rains will improve conditions so they become more playable shortly.

League competitions
Congratulations to the High Handicap team who qualified for the knock-out stages of this year’s regional competition with a 10-10 draw against East Dorset. It has been an impressive season for Tony Green’s team as they finished a comprehensive 6 points clear at the top of the league table. Having beaten Taunton Deane on 4th September in the quarterfinal and St Agnes in the semi-final, the team will play Sidmouth in the final on 26 September. Good luck.

New guidance has been added to the website to explain the new target score system that we will be using in club and league matches in 2026. This can be accessed here or from 'Play' above.

Also now available here and from 'Play' above is an expanded guidance note on the more general rules of playing Golf Croquet which includes foul shots, the penalties arising and how best to avoid them in specific situations.

Gift Aid Donations
As the Club became a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) earlier in the year any donations made by members and benefactors can now be made via Gift Aid, subject to the donor being a tax payer themselves. If you would like to make a donation a ‘Gift Aid’ form is available here.
